My name is Lisa May. I am a wife and the mother of 8 children (4 boys and 4 girls), ranging in age from 20 to 18 months. They are the reason I am returning to school! I have a BS degree in Finance from Spring Hill College and have been working in the field of finance for 20 years. I worked at a bank as a teller, financial services rep and branch manager. I left banking to begin a career in the mortgage industry 12 years ago. I love what I do but the industry has taken a beating over the last few years and I am looking for more stability. So, I am at South to earn a second degree in education.
I hope to put the many years of experience I have as a mother and employee to use in the classroom. Through the years, I have seen many teaching styles and hope to emulate some and learn from the mistakes of others. But, what I have found, is that educating a child takes an entire community. It takes the support of parents, teachers and society. I hope to acquire the skills through this class that will enable me to incorporate my experiences with technology to relate to and teach the children of tomorrow!
Hi, Lisa!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to EDM310!
Goodness, I bet you're busy with eight kids! Have you met Kelly Evans? She's an EDM310 student this semester, and she has seven!
You seem very motivated to learn, which is great! Hopefully you will take what you learn in EDM310 and apply it in your own future classroom.
Your post looks great, and your blog looks perfect! There are just a few minor things I would like to point out to you. For all of your blog and project assignments, the title of the blog post needs to be which assignment you are doing. For example, this post should be titled "Blog #1." You also need to be sure to upload a profile picture so we can all see what you look like! Lastly, be sure to add pictures, complete with title and alt modifiers for all of your upcoming posts. :)
I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with this semester!

Wow, Lisa,
ReplyDeleteYour career background sounds very similar to my own! I have been in the mortgage industry and finance for the last thirteen years. It seems as though we are both ready for a change. At first, I was a little reluctant to change careers because it was intimidating going from a field where I was looked up to, as opposed to now, where I am starting all over, looking to every one else for all of the answers. However, I felt, like yourself, it was a good time to exit the industry. Things were growing a bit stale and I was ready for a new challenge. Good luck with your new career change as well. I hope to meet you soon!
